Don’t / Poem

You tell me to be happy here

But there isn’t one right way.

Never thought you’d understand

This isn’t where I should stay.

Don’t take this too hard

I’ll hold you in my heart.

You shouldn’t follow me

This path is for me alone.

I’ll come visit you one day

Once I’ve made it on my own.

Don’t take this too hard

You still have my love.

You won’t cry when I’m gone

You know I’m going home.

Please don’t overthink it

Soon you’ll move on.

Don’t take this too hard

Promise I won’t forget us.

I feel the need to write a disclaimer so there isn’t any confusion about what this poem means (lol). I wrote this poem in thinking about leaving my current job (my last day is next week) and in thinking about people I’ve said goodbye to in the past.
