Today is cloudy and misty and snowy, which is a good day to write a blog post on, but I think instead I’ll share a lil’ playlist. Let’s leave the thinking for Friday’s post, shall we?
This playlist I’ve made is as much about the videos as the songs. I love the music, but I’ve compiled these because they all have amazing dancing in the video. You won’t be disappointed by checking out these bad boys. (Or, maybe you will. Who knows.)
- May I Have This Dance (Francis and the Lights feat. Chance the Rapper)
I love this video because the way it’s set is him figuring out the dance as he goes. At the beginning the moves don’t all connect, but by the end it’s this beautiful, concise dance.
I’ve also recently discovered this song, and it’s beautiful.
2. Rescue Me (OneRepublic)
Some of this music video is a bit strange, but the point is this kid’s dancing, and how spot on he is with every move. Something about the way he dances is so precise yet effortless. It’s almost unexpected, even to him, but so natural at the same time.
3. Too Much (Carly Rae Jepson)
I don’t love all of this video (food in face, yuck) but the dancing itself was enjoyable. I like how the moves were small and not exaggerated, but just subtle movements timed perfectly.
This song is also a recent find, and there’s no going back.
4. Want You Back (Haim)
The appeal in this is how casual it is, and how they build to dancing in unison. Once they do, near the end of the video, I love how they all do the same move in a slightly different way. One of them is looser, for instance, while another keeps the movements contained.
5. Call Your Girlfriend (Robyn)
This is definitely one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Her moves combined with that furry jumper make this one of my favourite things in the whole world.
I’m not even kidding.
6. Strangers (Sigrid)
We all know how much I love this song, but the video is just as fantastic. Sigrid isn’t afraid to be herself and just go for it; whenever I see this video I feel like dancing. (So I do.)
I also appreciate that in all her music videos she doesn’t wear much makeup and typically wears jeans and a t-shirt. She just seems genuinely herself and doesn’t mind what other people are doing.
7. Delicate (Taylor Swift)
Again, one of my favourite songs of all time, and we all know it. But this video just gives me so much life; I love her moves and how they aren’t all particularly ‘attractive’ but so energetic. Whenever I hear the song I want to copy her dancing, but I don’t think that’d work out too well for anyone.
8. Side Effects (The Chainsmokers feat. Emily Warren)
I think part of the charm is dancing without any responsibility, and just for the sake of it.
Happy snow day, and may there be more!
