Poem #5

Today’s rhyme;

New idea –

Been done before.

This time is different –

Are you sure?

Writing so many small bits and pieces is a bit discouraging. I feel like I’m not writing anything of substance, or importance. I like writing little poems, but the fact they don’t fit anywhere it pretty irritating. What do I do with them?

I would rather spend the time writing my novel, because that’ll get me somewhere. A novel has an endpoint, a goal, whilst small things don’t. They just sit there, open-ended and questioning.

In the past week I’ve also written some fictional paragraphs, not just poems, but none of them feel right to post on my blog.

Well. I think now is the time to read before bed. Wild, I know.

But what do you think makes some piece of writing important? There is writing that is technically well written that no one remembers, then there are small little rhyming poems that everyone knows or touches people really deeply. It also depends on why you write. It’s like what you told me about gifts. A gift’s purpose is to simply be given. Sometimes a poem’s purpose is simply to be written. Sometimes you can only see the importance of things with time. And you will never see its importance in time if you either never write it in the first place, or delete it soon after. Give it time, Sarah. Give yourself time too.
