The Art of Knowing Your Washing Machines Apart

I have a theory in regards to washing machines and growing up.

I think I’ve mentioned it briefly before, but this post will be an in-depth exploration of my theory about washing machines. You ready?

When you’re young there are many things you don’t know. You don’t know how to catch public transport on your own. You don’t know how to use a stove. You don’t know how to drive a car.

Some things you need to specifically learn. I remember being seventeen and learning to drive. I remember having to specifically put in those hours to learn so I could get my license. I don’t, however, remember learning to use a stove. It’s just something I simply…know. And I clearly haven’t always known how, but it feels that way because it’s such a small, easy thing to me now.

Washing machines, however, are different.

Not the use of them. I’ve known how to use a washing machine for a number of years now and I don’t have to think about it at all. It’s very easy. (Again, something that I can’t remember learning but seem to have always known, when that clearly isn’t the case.)

No, not the use of a washing machine. I’m talking about buying a washing machine.

My question is this: when the time comes, will I discover that I simply know what kind washing machine to use, or will it be something I specifically remember learning?

Now that I’m twenty, my theory is that I will somehow know what to do when the time comes, because as a twenty year old I’m old and mature and wise and responsible and if someone asks me how to buy a washing machine, I’ll be able to say “let me help you with that, I know what I’m talking about.”

As a twenty year old, it’s an obligation of mine to understand washing machines. I don’t right now, in this very moment, but by the time I will have to understand, I miraculously will.

Turn twenty and get wise regarding washing machines, campers. It’s the thing to do.

  1. I gotta tell you, purchasing your first washing machine is an accomplishment…
But even greater is the feeling that comes after you have (eventually) successfully installed it! (We only flooded the laundry once!! 😀 )
(Ps, you shouldn’t install your first washing machine when you’re 8 months pregnant like I did 😉 no one was harmed, but I was too excited to let others do it all, and probably shouldn’t have been helping to lift a washing machine… that’s my word of wisdom for the day!..)
