I went to Vivid last night.
For those who don’t know, Vivid is held in Sydney around this time of year, and it’s where they light up the city. They put light patterns on the opera house, harbour bridge, buildings, throughout the Botanical Gardens, all around the city.
It was more the company that made it a good night. The lights are nice, yes, especially these giant sunflowers they put in the botanical gardens, but it’s not as good as it’s made out to be. I suspect this has largely to do with the crowds and how difficult it is to see things clearly and for as long as you want to. Maybe if I were the only person at Vivid things would be different.
So we walked around for a couple of hours and it was fun and we got lost but it was fun. And we were all overtired and we were the loud people on the train and it was wonderful.
With the city lit up, you can’t really see anything else. I’m sure there’s a metaphor in that somewhere, and I’m sure you can find it, but I’m not going to blog about such a metaphor.
If you ever go to Vivid, enjoy staring at the sunflowers.
