Sad(ish) Love Songs

I’m in a playlist mood as of late, as you can probably tell. These next songs are my top fourteen sad-ish love songs. Don’t deny it, you love listening to these sorts of songs at least a few times a year.

  1. Into the Blue (Sara Jackson-Holman)

Castle made me love this song, and now there’s no turning back.

2. Sitting, Waiting, Wishing (Jack Johnson)

Catchy, but upon hearing the lyrics there’s a haunting sadness within it.

3. The Weakness in Me (Joan Armatrading)

This song is the weakness in me.

4. I Dreamed a Dream (Anne Hathaway)

This song isn’t just a ‘sad-ish love song’, but for me it is.

5. Samson (Regina Spektor)

We all have a Samson. And if we don’t, after hearing this song we wish we did.

6. Better Love (Foxes)

This song actually makes you think.

7. And The Boys (Angus and Julia Stone)

Don’t let the folksy-upbeat-vibe of this song deceive you. It’s sad sad sad.

8. Georgia (Vance Joy)

The bridge just gets me. Every. Single. time.

9. All Too Well (Taylor Swift)

The story of this song gets me every time. So good, especially with the builds and the falls of the volume and intensity of instruments.

10. Half Light (Banners)

So dramatic! I don’t even know what it means but I feel like I can relate to it; if that’s the case, you know it’s a good song.

11. Some Boys (Death Cab for Cutie)

Not sad, but still is.

12. Only Love Can Hurt Like This (Paloma Faith)

Just sad. Just sad.

13. I Won’t Say (I’m In Love) (from “Hercules”)

I will say I’m in love with this song.

14. Never Forget You (Noisettes)

Again, just like “And The Boys”, this doesn’t have a sad beat nor necessarily sad lyrics. But based on my experiences and memories from the time that I heard this song and related to it, I see it as a sad love song.

I’m going to point out that several songs should be on this list that aren’t (Another Love by Tom Odell, Nervous by that dude. Gavin?) but they’re not because they’re already in another playlist, my top twenty memory songs ( .

Thanks for listening,

Sarah xx
